ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ गावै को वेखै हादरा हदूरि ॥ Gāvai ko vekẖai hāḏrā haḏūr. Some sing that He watches over us, face to face, ever-present.

ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ॥ कथना कथी न आवै तोटि ॥ Kathnā kathī na āvai ṯot. There is no shortage of those who preach and teach.

ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥ कथि कथि कथी कोटी कोटि कोटि ॥ Kath kath kathī kotī kot kot. Millions upon millions offer millions of sermons and stories.

ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ देदा दे लैदे थकि पाहि ॥ Ḏeḏā ḏe laiḏe thak pāhi. The Great Giver keeps on giving, while those who receive grow weary of receiving.

ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ जुगा जुगंतरि खाही खाहि ॥ Jugā juganṯar kẖāhī kẖāhi. Throughout the ages, consumers consume.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਰਾਹੁ ॥ हुकमी हुकमु चलाए राहु ॥ Hukmī hukam cẖalā▫e rāhu. The Commander, by His Command, leads us to walk on the Path.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੩॥ नानक विगसै वेपरवाहु ॥३॥ Nānak vigsai veparvāhu. ||3|| O Nanak, He blossoms forth, Carefree and Untroubled. ||3||

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ साचा साहिबु साचु नाइ भाखिआ भाउ अपारु ॥ Sācẖā sāhib sācẖ nā▫e bẖākẖi▫ā bẖā▫o apār. True is the Master, True is His Name-speak it with infinite love.

ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ आखहि मंगहि देहि देहि दाति करे दातारु ॥ Ākẖahi mangahi ḏehi ḏehi ḏāṯ kare ḏāṯār. People beg and pray, "Give to us, give to us", and the Great Giver gives His Gifts.

ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥ फेरि कि अगै रखीऐ जितु दिसै दरबारु ॥ Fer kė agai rakẖī▫ai jiṯ ḏisai ḏarbār. So what offering can we place before Him, by which we might see the Darbaar of His Court?

ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ मुहौ कि बोलणु बोलीऐ जितु सुणि धरे पिआरु ॥ Muhou kė bolaṇ bolī▫ai jiṯ suṇ ḏẖare pi▫ār. What words can we speak to evoke His Love?

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ अम्रित वेला सचु नाउ वडिआई वीचारु ॥ Amriṯ velā sacẖ nā▫o vadi▫ā▫ī vīcẖār. In the Amrit Vaylaa, the ambrosial hours before dawn, chant the True Name, and contemplate His Glorious Greatness.

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ करमी आवै कपड़ा नदरी मोखु दुआरु ॥ Karmī āvai kapṛā naḏrī mokẖ ḏu▫ār. By the karma of past actions, the robe of this physical body is obtained. By His Grace, the Gate of Liberation is found.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥ नानक एवै जाणीऐ सभु आपे सचिआरु ॥४॥ Nānak evai jāṇī▫ai sabẖ āpe sacẖiār. ||4|| O Nanak, know this well: the True One Himself is All. ||4||

ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ थापिआ न जाइ कीता न होइ ॥ Thāpi▫ā na jā▫e kīṯā na ho▫e. He cannot be established, He cannot be created.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ आपे आपि निरंजनु सोइ ॥ Āpe āp niranjan so▫e. He Himself is Immaculate and Pure.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ जिनि सेविआ तिनि पाइआ मानु ॥ Jin sevi▫ā ṯin pā▫i▫ā mān. Those who serve Him are honored.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ नानक गावीऐ गुणी निधानु ॥ Nānak gāvī▫ai guṇī niḏẖān. O Nanak, sing of the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥ गावीऐ सुणीऐ मनि रखीऐ भाउ ॥ Gāvī▫ai suṇī▫ai man rakẖī▫ai bẖā▫o. Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.

ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ दुखु परहरि सुखु घरि लै जाइ ॥ Ḏukẖ parhar sukẖ gẖar lai jā▫e. Your pain shall be sent far away, and peace shall come to your home.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ गुरमुखि नादं गुरमुखि वेदं गुरमुखि रहिआ समाई ॥ Gurmukẖ nāḏaʼn gurmukẖ veḏaʼn gurmukẖ rahi▫ā samā▫ī. The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad; the Guru's Word is the Wisdom of the Vedas; the Guru's Word is all-pervading.

ਗੁਰੁ ਈਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ॥ गुरु ईसरु गुरु गोरखु बरमा गुरु पारबती माई ॥ Gur īsar gur gorakẖ barmā gur pārbaṯī mā▫ī. The Guru is Shiva, the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; the Guru is Paarvati and Lakhshmi.

ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ जे हउ जाणा आखा नाही कहणा कथनु न जाई ॥ Je ha▫o jāṇā ākẖā nāhī kahṇā kathan na jā▫ī. Even knowing God, I cannot describe Him; He cannot be described in words.

ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ गुरा इक देहि बुझाई ॥ Gurā ik ḏehi bujẖā▫ī. The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥ सभना जीआ का इकु दाता सो मै विसरि न जाई ॥५॥ Sabẖnā jī▫ā kā ik ḏāṯā so mai visar na jā▫ī. ||5|| there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||5||

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ॥ तीरथि नावा जे तिसु भावा विणु भाणे कि नाइ करी ॥ Ŧirath nāvā je ṯis bẖāvā viṇ bẖāṇe kė nā▫e karī. If I am pleasing to Him, then that is my pilgrimage and cleansing bath. Without pleasing Him, what good are ritual cleansings?

ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ॥ जेती सिरठि उपाई वेखा विणु करमा कि मिलै लई ॥ Jeṯī siraṯẖ upā▫ī vekẖā viṇ karmā kė milai la▫ī. I gaze upon all the created beings: without the karma of good actions, what are they given to receive?

ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣੀ ॥ मति विचि रतन जवाहर माणिक जे इक गुर की सिख सुणी ॥ Maṯ vicẖ raṯan javāhar māṇik je ik gur kī sikẖ suṇī. Within the mind are gems, jewels and rubies, if you listen to the Guru's Teachings, even once.

ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ गुरा इक देहि बुझाई ॥ Gurā ik ḏehi bujẖā▫ī. The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥ सभना जीआ का इकु दाता सो मै विसरि न जाई ॥६॥ Sabẖnā jī▫ā kā ik ḏāṯā so mai visar na jā▫ī. ||6|| there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||6||

ਜੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਰਜਾ ਹੋਰ ਦਸੂਣੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ जे जुग चारे आरजा होर दसूणी होइ ॥ Je jug cẖāre ārjā hor ḏasūṇī ho▫e. Even if you could live throughout the four ages, or even ten times more,

ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ नवा खंडा विचि जाणीऐ नालि चलै सभु कोइ ॥ Navā kẖanda vicẖ jāṇī▫ai nāl cẖalai sabẖ ko▫e. and even if you were known throughout the nine continents and followed by all,

ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾਉ ਰਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਲੇਇ ॥ चंगा नाउ रखाइ कै जसु कीरति जगि लेइ ॥ Cẖanga nā▫o rakẖā▫e kai jas kīraṯ jag le▫e. with a good name and reputation, with praise and fame throughout the world-

ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤ ਵਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਕੇ ॥ जे तिसु नदरि न आवई त वात न पुछै के ॥ Je ṯis naḏar na āvī ṯa vāṯ na pucẖẖai ke. still, if the Lord does not bless you with His Glance of Grace, then who cares? What is the use?

ਕੀਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇ ॥ कीटा अंदरि कीटु करि दोसी दोसु धरे ॥ Kītā anḏar kīt kar ḏosī ḏos ḏẖare. Among worms, you would be considered a lowly worm, and even contemptible sinners would hold you in contempt.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਣਵੰਤਿਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਦੇ ॥ नानक निरगुणि गुणु करे गुणवंतिआ गुणु दे ॥ Nānak nirguṇ guṇ kare guṇvanṯi▫ā guṇ ḏe. O Nanak, God blesses the unworthy with virtue, and bestows virtue on the virtuous.

ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਜਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ॥੭॥ तेहा कोइ न सुझई जि तिसु गुणु कोइ करे ॥७॥ Ŧehā ko▫e na sujẖ▫ī jė ṯis guṇ ko▫e kare. ||7|| No one can even imagine anyone who can bestow virtue upon Him. ||7||

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥ सुणिऐ सिध पीर सुरि नाथ ॥ Suṇi▫ai siḏẖ pīr sur nāth. Listening-the Siddhas, the spiritual teachers, the heroic warriors, the yogic masters.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਧਰਤਿ ਧਵਲ ਆਕਾਸ ॥ सुणिऐ धरति धवल आकास ॥ Suṇi▫ai ḏẖaraṯ ḏẖaval ākās. Listening-the earth, its support and the Akaashic ethers.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥ सुणिऐ दीप लोअ पाताल ॥ Suṇi▫ai ḏīp lo▫a pāṯāl. Listening-the oceans, the lands of the world and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥ सुणिऐ पोहि न सकै कालु ॥ Suṇi▫ai pohi na sakai kāl. Listening-Death cannot even touch you.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥ नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥ Nānak bẖagṯā saḏā vigās. O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੮॥ सुणिऐ दूख पाप का नासु ॥८॥ Suṇi▫ai ḏūkẖ pāp kā nās. ||8|| Listening-pain and sin are erased. ||8||

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਈਸਰੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਇੰਦੁ ॥ सुणिऐ ईसरु बरमा इंदु ॥ Suṇi▫ai īsar barmā inḏ. Listening-Shiva, Brahma and Indra.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣ ਮੰਦੁ ॥ सुणिऐ मुखि सालाहण मंदु ॥ Suṇi▫ai mukẖ sālāhaṇ manḏ. Listening-even foul-mouthed people praise Him.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੇਦ ॥ सुणिऐ जोग जुगति तनि भेद ॥ Suṇi▫ai jog jugaṯ ṯan bẖeḏ. Listening-the technology of Yoga and the secrets of the body.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਵੇਦ ॥ सुणिऐ सासत सिम्रिति वेद ॥ Suṇi▫ai sāsaṯ simriṯ veḏ. Listening-the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥ नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥ Nānak bẖagṯā saḏā vigās. O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.  सिख धर्म आगे
